Gilroy Garbage Program All garbage and recycling containers need to be placed at the curb or roadside the night before your service day or by 6:00 A.M. on your service day. Remember that collection times may vary.

Acceptable Garbage Materials
Only put non-recyclable materials into your gray container!
Glass
  • Auto, mirror and tinted glass
  • Glassware, crystal and dinnerware
  • Household window glass
  • Light bulbs (except fluorescent bulbs)
Metal
  • Car parts
  • Clothes hangers
  • Microwave ovens
  • Small pieces such as nuts and bolts
Organic Material
  • Ice plant, palm fronds, cactus, poison ivy or poison oak, animal feces or manure
  • Moth, bug, or ant infested materials
Plastic
  • Bubble wrap
  • Plastic utensils
  • PVC or other plastic piping
  • Plastic bags (other than grocery & shopping bags, dry clean bags, and newspaper bags)
  • Toys, trays, cups, garden hoses, flower pots
  • Unmarked plastics

Extra Garbage
If you need to dispose of extra garbage, please contact customer service one day in advance and we will arrange for the driver to remove your extra garbage for an additional fee.

Recology South Valley offers residential compost service and residential recycling service.

Unacceptable Garbage Material
Please do not place the following materials into your gray container!
Construction Debris
  • Concrete, rocks, dirt, lumber, dirt, rocks, plywood or particle board
Electronic / Universal Waste
  • Televisions, cell phones and computer monitors, fluorescent light bulbs or tubes.
    Contact us to find out how to recycle or safely dispose of these materials.
Liquids, Hot Ashes or Coals, Dead Animals

Household Hazardous Waste
  • Paints, solvents, motor oil, cleaners, corrosives, fuel tanks - propane tanks, syringes, medical waste

Billing Information?
  • Garbage services are billed quarterly. Payment in full is due by the end of the billing period.
  • If you choose to mail a monthly payment, please include your account number on your check.
  • The past due date for your statement will be shown on the bottom of the statement.
  • Save time and resources! We have an online electronic bill payment service available.
  • City ordinance states that garbage collection service is mandatory for every property in the City of Gilroy.

Service Schedule
Your recycling , yard waste and garbage is collected weekly. All containers need to be placed on the street, wheels against the curb, by 6:00 A.M. of your service day. Collection times may vary.

Your garbage, recycling, and yard waste cart will all be collected by an automated truck. This means a mechanical arm retrieves, empties, and sets the cart down in the street without the driver leaving the truck.

Donations of Reusable Items

In addition to waste reduction and recycling, reuse is a great way to help the environment. If you have old items that can be reused, don't throw them away.

All donated items must work and be in good condition. Donated food should not be past it's expiration date.
